These apartments were a critical part of the rebirth of the Marquette block of East Hennepin Avenue, between University Avenue NE and Second Street SE. The block was in decline for several decades and its historic buildings had become virtually uninhabitable. The restoration made the Marquette block a lively place once again, featuring an innovative mix of restored buildings consisting of businesses, 20 new townhomes, and the loft apartments. Controversy surrounding the 5 key historic buildings enabled the block to maintain its historic integrity. The five adjacent historic buildings now house Bobino Café and Wine Bar, Taraccino Coffee, and Bruegger's Fresh Bagel Bakery. Redevelopment of the block also provided parking for the neighborhood.
